Montezuma Castle

Beaver creek

this is a model of what the inside would look like

this was probably a home to a watchman

We've been through the desert.....

but we weren't on a horse with no name.
As we traveled out to Bulldog Canyon we enjoyed looking at GINORMOUS houses and fancy cars. When we arrived to the off road portion of our trip our guide gave us night vision scopes. Pretty neat...here's my first peek....
As we traveled along the trail he had a flashlight with a black light filter on it, looking along the trail. He told us that scorpions would glow if he shined the black light on them....
Pretty cool, eh?

The guide said you couldn't get a good camera picture through the scope, so I proceeded to try harder to do so.

The stars were incredible.

Did you know that the stars you see with your eye are only a portion of what you can see with the night vision? It was amazing to see so many sparkling stars.

EGB read A Walk in the Desert recently that told all about the Senora desert and saguaro cacti. She was so excited to see them. She answered many questions about cactus the guide asked. Papa was very impressed...way to go Laura!! :)

OUCH...

M thinks this is the prettiest cactus in the desert.

This is jojoba.

Now our body time it was 1 am...so some didn't make the whole trip. Who am I kidding...We all feel asleep on the ride back to the hotel.

THE END....

Stay tuned for Montezuma's Castle....M will argue that she doesn't think a princess lived there though.

Gone West.

We are blessed to be visiting a new place today. We left TN and traveled to AZ. We will try to update as we see EXCITING new things.

She is writing to Allie to tell her about our trip.
Multi-tasker. Having a snack, listening to the ipod and rocking her baby doll.
Our view for a few hours.
Can you tell that one is more excited than the other about being awake and heading into the desert? Maggie thinks Eric is her friend on this trip, and so far he has obliged her.
This is the sign posted on the inside of our "rig" for our night desert tour. EGB was really not too happy about the snake handler part.

But the boys were pretty excited about our ride for the night.....
can you guess what our rig was? Hint...they're on the fourth row of seats.
How about from the 3rd row?

second row??? Sorry Papa, I don't have a picture of you.

Our "rig"
We went into the desert an explored in the dark. What a nice way to start a trip...with a snake handler, surrounded by cacti.
My next post....Night vision pictures...INCREDIBLE.
